How to transfer domain names

You can transfer your domain to a new owner in 3 easy steps. Enter the domain your wish to transfer. Check your email to authorise the transfer and you’ll receive an email confirmation once your domain is transferred.

Domain name transfer process

.au Domains (.com.au, .net.au, .org.au, .id.au)
  • .au transfers are actioned once confirmation has been received by Webcentral from the authorised contact for the domain
  • It takes 48 hours for the relevant domain registry to transfer the domain
  • While the transfer process is free, registrations within the renewal period (90 days to expiry) will require the registration renewal payment to be submitted at the time of transfer.
Top level domains (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz)
  • Top level domain transfers take 5–10 days to complete
  • You may need to contact your current registration provider to remove a registrar lock on your domain before you begin
  • You may transfer an expired domain to Webcentral. However, if the status of the domain is “Redemption Period”, “Pending Delete” or “Expired”, you will not be able to transfer the registration and should contact your current registrar.
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year renewal upon transfer, which is then added to the end of your registration period.
.nz Domains (.co.nz, .net.nz)
  • .nz domains must be submitted with the UDAI (Unique Domain Authorisation Indicator)
  • .nz domains are transferred instantly
.uk Domains (.co.uk, .org.uk)

All .uk domain names require manual processing. If you wish to transfer a .uk domain, please complete the following .uk Domain Transfer Form.

How to Recover a Domain Password and Expiry Date

Click on this link to recover your domain password and enter your website address and the requestors name. An email will be sent to the administrator of the domain name with a link for recovering the domain password. You will have 48 hours to recover the domain password.

A domain name transfer is where there are changes made to the registrar with which your domain name is registered. Changing the registrar with whom your domain name is registered is known as domain name transfer.

Yes. To transfer your domain name to another registrant, contact your existing registrar and request a change of registrant. When your registrar gets your confirmation, they will perform the transfer and notify both you and the new registrant when it is complete.

Yes and no. For example, if you registered your domain in June and transferred to a different registrar in December you would pay the new registrar 1 year’s registration fee. And, your previous registrar would not reimburse you for the remaining months you were not with them.
