Overview
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 is the next major release of SQL Server and related components.
Currently in its pre-release stage, SQL Server 2012, code named “Denali” will provide customers with higher levels of performance, availability and scalability, compared to previous versions.
WebCentral have taken the complexity out of setting up and configuring a hosted environment for testing your website and software, working closely with Microsoft to allow customers to easily deploy and run SQL Server 2012 without having to purchase and manage hardware. Customers should note that because this is pre-release software there are certain limitations to its use and should not be used for commercial or production purposes. Features
Security
- With the new Contained Databases feature the authentication layer has been moved into the database, which means you are in complete control of who has access to your database.
- With new Auditing capabilities it even easier for us to identify who, what, when, and how changes are being made or data is being accessed within your database.
- By utilising the Core editions of Windows and SQL Server RC0 we have removed much of the attack surface which means higher protection from exploits and malicious attacks, as well as less downtime for routine maintenance.
Outage Prevention
- It's now so much easier to incorporate Disaster Recovery into your Database to ensure your application always has its data available.
- With the new High Availability Disaster Recovery Always On (HADRON) feature, Dedicated customers can take advantage faster failover between cluster nodes and easier portability.
- With the new Contained Databases feature it is now faster than ever to restore your database or move your database to a new server in the event of a disaster.
Reliability
- SQL Server 2012 is the most mature of the SQL Server product set.
- Our SQL Server Database Administration team can help you with migration from SQL 2000 (now 11 years old), as well as all other SQL Server products. Isn't your data worth protecting with a mature product and industry experts?
Business Intelligence
Extreme Performance
- With the new Column Store Index feature, you can greatly improve the performance of your data warehouse database without changing any of your table design or column data types (NOTE: The CTP release currently only allows this functionality in a Read-Only mode).
- With the new High Availability Disaster Recovery Always On (HADRON) feature, Dedicated customers can move Read-Only activity (such as Reporting and Database Backups) to the stand-by database, therefore removing those activities which generally impact your Application Performance.
- As the cost of Hardware continues to reduce, consolidation of many SQL Server Databases onto one server is becoming a growing trend, and with the improvements in Performance on a Virtualised Server within SQL Server 2012 it is now even more cost effective to get the performance that your application needs.
Faster Development
- More and more businesses are relying on their Database as more than just storage of data, it is now a fundamental part of their application and often provide various functions within their online identity.
- The gap between the Developer and the DBA has been considerably closed with Developers using their existing knowledge of the Visual Studio framework to leverage the new unified platform for Development and Business Intelligence projects all within the new SQL Server Data Tools framework.
- Deployments and Updates are even easier to deploy and manage with the new SQL Server Data Tools and further enhancements to the Data-Tier Application Component features.

- Available and part of the service that we provide.
- Available but requires customer configuration or action.
- Available but restrictions apply.
- Additional charges apply for this service.
Notes:
1SQL Agent Jobs on IDQ Instances support both TSQL and SSIS tasks. Some tasks are not permitted as they exceed the permissions available. Typically supported task types are DML and DDL activities performed at the database layer.
2CLR assemblies are only supported when registered with SAFE permission set
3Transaction Log backups are performed at 15 minute intervals and require that the database be set to use the Full Recovery Model. Databases which are set to use the Simple Recovery Model will only be able to be backed up nightly. Databases hosted on our Shared product are restricted to Simple Recovery model.
4To provide Point-in-Time restores the Database must be set to Full Recovery Model as per 3. All backups must also be valid and available in sequence since and including the last full database backup. Some database configuration changes can affect the ability to perform a Point-in-Time restore past the time that the change is made until the next full backup is taken.
5Some restrictions to this feature apply due to restricted permissions granted to the Login based on the Product Level.
6Shared Databases can only be included in SQL Replication as a Push Subscription only. The Distribution/Publication must exist on the Customer's own server and that must be the source of the data. Transactional or Snapshot replication only.
7Only Transactional or Snapshot Replication is supported
8Additional Setup and Hosting Charges Apply
9DB Mirroring and Log Shipping require that all SQL Instances are of the same SQL Version. DB Mirroring and Log Shipping can be used to provide Site Resilience / Multi-Site DR capabilities8
^Feature requires SQL Server Enterprise Edition.
