FAQ's

Top questions asked so far...

Q.
How does DSL broadband work?
A.

DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line and is a fast growing technology that uses a normal phone line to provide high-speed internet access. The DSL signal is carried by two modems - one in your premises and one at your local telephone exchange. These modems are designed to exploit the physical transmission capabilities of the copper wires to deliver higher data transfer rates. Your existing phone master socket is modified to split the line into two channels (using a central line splitter), so that one line is used for normal voice transmissions (ie. telephone) and the other for your DSL internet access.

There are two types of DSL available:

  • ADSL - Asymmetric, which typically provides a faster downstream data flow and a lower upstream speed (making it ideal for users who do more downloading than uploading); and
  • SDSL - Symmetric, which maintains equal upstream and downstream speeds to meet the needs of users that need to upload significant amounts of data to the internet at a fast rate.
Q.
What is Fast Churn and how does it work?
A.

Fast Churn is a process which gives businesses that already have a DSL connection the opportunity to transfer their connection to WebCentral without having to first disconnect their current DSL service and then reapply for a new service. Without Fast Churn, the transfer from one broadband service provider to another typically takes between 14 to 30 working days and your business will have no connection to the internet throughout this changeover. By supporting Fast Churn, WebCentral allows you to simply complete a Fast Churn Application Form and have your connection transferred from your current provider to us within five working days and with approximately only two hours downtime. The once-off connection fee for setting up your new WebCentral DSL service is also significantly reduced, from $120 to just $50.

If you would like to Fast Churn to WebCentral, please contact our Sales Team on 1800 800 099 (ext. 1), so that we may provide you with the Fast Churn Application Form to complete. Please note: Your current provider must also support Fast Churn for you to be able to utilise this service. Disconnection, exit or churn fees may be charged by your current provider, particularly if you are still within a contract period, so please be sure to also contact your current provider for further information.
